- For timestamped proof tied to your company months later, continuity when a member state goes down, and a name where VIES gives none.
- What is the certificate worth in a tax audit?
- It documents your due diligence: number, UTC timestamp, VIES consultation identifier, source of every field, SHA-256 hash. It does not replace your tax analysis; it makes it demonstrable. What it proves, and what it does not.
- What if VIES is unavailable?
- No validity is ever invented. A recent cached validity is served with confidence
degraded, dated. Otherwise the API answers 503 with a retry delay.
